I. Prologue❋
I. Prologue
Going back four thousand and several hundred years. Human culture was entering a transitional period. Many old things lost their power, a few new things began to bud. As human knowledge grew, the mysteries which had grown ripe declined, and bit by bit the universal law on this planet transitioned into the laws of physics we have today. The state of the earth became secure, and it became difficult for divine and phantasmal beasts to live on the earth. The gods, who had carried the laws of the heavens, lost their directionality and were returning to being pure natural phenomena.
Essentially, this was the beginning of the Age of Humanity. The gods left the earth, and mankind began its reign over the earth. Countless kings we born, and perished, and in that way civilization continued. You could call it a dawning, when humans separate from the gods, their parents, and took their first steps.
...that's right. Human beings, who had previously respected and feared nature, began as a race to behave in whatever way they so pleased.
In that era, he was born, designed, to be a king. With the blood of the gods who had reign up until that time, and the blood of the human beings who would reign in ages to come. Displaying traits of both of these, a wholly different sort of being. Understanding the faults of each, passing judgment with the perspectives of each, the ultimate neutral party.
In the beginning, he loved gods more than men.
Eventually, he hated gods more than men.
And in the end, he decided to look at all that belonged to humanity.
He decided to look. He decided to come to understand the lives of every human being, under the standards of a king. That was his foundation.
There was a king who reigned in ancient Uruk.
There was a king who acknowledged no one as his equal.
There was a king who passed judgment over all, making no distinction between those who defied him and those who obeyed him.
Never acknowledging equality with anyone, he continued to take lives without mercy. All that remained in his wake were people, broken and crying, and the desolated land. Desires which continued to be born, and nature which continued to be uncovered. Both hideous, appalling scenes. The moment the crucible of desire comes into the world. There was a king who approved that and turned away.
The desire to make human beings properly human was born in this era. Because the king who was ordered to judge that animal nature approved of human desire. ...because he approved of plunder.
The result of that was this wasteland. A garden of desire where he continued to scorn, hate, and judge ugliness. Covered in that mud, he smiled.
"Ah, indeed -- how disgusting the future is."
